The oboe is a wonderful instrument. It has a unique sound and it can be very expressive. Many listeners are fascinated by it.

But it can also be frustrating and can at times seem to be an unsolved riddle. To solve this riddle one must analyse the components of oboe playing in a systematic manner and with scientific methods, until a clear theoretical structure is reached and simple, useful tools are defined to implement that theory.
